More info:

A team of four clinical staff and a carer representative have secured Department of Health funding through the King's Fund 'Enhancing the Healing Environment' programme, with additional funding from Devon Partnership NHS Trust, to develop a proposal to create a sensory environment that is both stimulating and calming. The project will focus on the creation of internal and external sensory trails, incorporating commissioned artwork and sculpture, with a new courtyard garden providing a central focus. A number of art projects are planned which will involve people using the service, carers, staff and members of the local community. Innovative lighting and colour will also be incorporated in the design work.

Design principles from this project will be shared with other units across the Trust who are undergoing refurbishment as part of a multi-million pound investment in older people's services,  demonstrating how a sensitively and appropriately designed environment, based on the latest research-based evidence, can contribute to the well-being of people with dementia requiring a hospital admission.

Come to the 'Drop-in session in St Thomas, Exeter to give us feedback and suggestions for the project.
