BBH Awards: Categories for 2010 are unveiled. Will you be a winner this year?
THE efforts of architects, construction companies, healthcare workers and product manufacturers to change the face of modern healthcare environments will be celebrated when the BBH Awards is held later this year.
This week saw the launch of the categories for the 2010 competition, the winners of which will be announced at a plush ceremony in central London on 11 November.
And this year, more than ever, the awards will be recognising those projects which are helping trusts to meet demands for service improvements around important national issues such as patient dignity and safety and carbon reduction.
Nominations are now being invited in the following categories:
Building Design Category
Best Hospital Design: An outstanding acute hospital scheme that place patient experience, staff support and the environment at the heart of the project and makes the hospital an effective part of the city or townscape
Best Primary Care Design (projects below £15m): A healthcare/service provider that can demonstrate a strategic approach to capital asset management through the effective employment of an estates strategy
Best Community Care Design (projects above £10m): An outstanding community care project with a civic presence the contributes towards making a health neighbourhood and brings basic care closer to local settings
Best Mental Health Design: An outstanding project for mental healthcare that creates a positive, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors and staff
Best Sustainable Design: An outstanding project that advances sustainable development through design
Best Social Care Design: An outstanding project that provides a supportive environment for social care in either a residential or end-of-life setting. The project should address the needs of the patient and their families and carers
Patient Environment Class
Best Interior Design:An outstanding therapeutic space that enhances the overall experience of patients, staff and visitors through an innovative approach to interior design
Best Landscape or External Space:An outstanding space that enhances the overall experience of patients, staff and visitors through the design of the landscape, urbanscape or streetscape
Best Use of Visual Art in Healthcare:An outstanding, innovative and effective visual arts programme that engages with staff, patients and visitors to create a positive place for work and recuperation
Products Class:
Best Product Used in the Exterior Environment: A heavy or light construction or architectural product that has made a sustainable improvement to the therapeutic quality and efficiency of the exterior build or physical structure of a healthcare facility
Best Product Used in the Interior Environment: A healthcare interiors or architectural product that has improved the internal therapeutic environment, enhanced safety for patients and staff or made a positive contribution to service delivery
Award for Best Product Used to Enhance Communication: A healthcare or architectural product that has improved communication in the therapeutic environment and made a positive contribution to service delivery or the patient environment. Communication can be demonstrated in any form, including audio, visual, structural, signage or publication
Estates and Facilities Management Class:
Award for Best Response to Current Policy – Patient Safety:A facilities management healthcare service provider that has demonstrated innovation and high achievement in responding to new/current policy affecting patient safety
Award for Best Response to Current Policy – Privacy and Dignity: A facilities management healthcare service provider that has demonstrated innovation and high achievement in responding to the need to improve patient privacy and dignity
Award for Best Carbon Reduction Strategy in Primary Care: A healthcare/service provider that can demonstrate an effective carbon reduction strategy for the primary care estate, which is delivering change in its ability to adapt to and mitigate the impact of climate change
Award for Best Carbon Reduction Strategy in Acute Care: A healthcare/service provider that can demonstrate an effective carbon reduction strategy for an acute setting, which is delivering change in its ability to adapt to and mitigate the impact of climate change
People Class:
Award for Best Project Team:The team which has responded to the challenge of a project’s brief not just on time and within budget, but has also demonstrated an exciting and innovative approach to engaging staff, patients and the wider community
Award for NHS Design Champion of the Year: An individual who has developed and committed their organisation to a clear vision to improve the built environment by promoting the benefits of good design and supporting, challenging and inspiring colleagues to be excellent clients
Outstanding Achievement Award for Services to the Healthcare Environment: This category is awarded, at the discretion of the judges, to an individual who has contributed to major improvements in the quality and design of the healthcare environment by raising the aspirations of others and supporting and encouraging innovation
